7. Postflows Scope and Limitations

Postflows works alongside Shopify, fulfillment providers, and shipping carriers to power the post-purchase experience. This article outlines which areas are managed within Postflows and which rely on external systems or carrier-provided data.

What Postflows can control

  • Tracking page branding and display settings (showing/hiding shipment origin, destination, carrier, tracking locations, and timestamps)

  • Custom tracking page URL

  • Standard Postflows shipment statuses (In Transit, Out for Delivery, Delivered, etc.)

  • Which shipping events are enabled

  • Order syncing rules - including filters by country, items, and fulfillment source (see Order Filters below)

  • Event filters - including origin-country proximity filtering (see Event Filters below)

  • Klaviyo and Omnisend event syncing

  • Post-purchase email trigger logic

What Postflows cannot control

  • Whether first-mile or last-mile tracking is used

  • Carrier-submitted tracking updates

  • Carrier-submitted tracking locations

  • Carrier delivery estimates and timestamps

  • Tracking events shown on the customer-facing tracking timeline (e.g. "Received by airport of origin", shipment origin scans, transit updates)

  • Timing of carrier updates and when shipment events are triggered

  • Native Shopify order confirmation and shipping notification emails

Order syncing filters

Postflows provides three filters that control which orders are processed. When an order is blocked by a filter, none of its shipping events are forwarded.

Country filter

Includes or excludes orders based on the shipping destination country. Useful for limiting notifications to specific markets or excluding countries where a local carrier handles communications directly.

See Order Filters for setup instructions.

Items filter

Includes or excludes orders based on the products they contain (by SKU or Shopify Product ID). Useful for excluding test/sample products or limiting notifications to specific product lines.

See Order Filters for setup instructions.

Ecomflow filter

Includes or excludes orders based on whether they are fulfilled by Ecomflow. This filter is only relevant for active Ecomflow clients.

  • Ecomflow-fulfilled orders are free

  • Non-Ecomflow-fulfilled orders are billed at $0.035 per shipment

See Order Filters for setup instructions.

Event filters

Event filters run after order filters and control whether a specific carrier update is forwarded to your email platform.

Proximity filter

Drops carrier updates where the tracking checkpoint is in a different country than the delivery destination. This prevents customers from receiving "In Transit" notifications for scans that happen in the origin country before the package has left.

When enabled (same_country mode):

  • Checkpoints in the destination country: forwarded

  • Checkpoints in other countries: dropped

Postflows still receives and logs these updates - only forwarding to your email platform is suppressed.

See Event Filters for setup instructions.

Important notes

  • Postflows standardizes carrier updates into shipment statuses, but still relies on carrier-provided tracking data.

  • The customer-facing tracking timeline still relies on tracking data, shipment locations, and event details submitted by the carrier.

  • Different carriers structure and send tracking data differently, so tracking behavior and timeline events may vary between shipments and carriers.
